This card is the only one with no annual fee that provides a roadside assistance benefit, which can be a lifesaver for people who travel on the road a lot. The main reason to apply for this card is to have free access to this benefit, given that the rewards are not great in most categories (except for Canadian Tire and grocery purchases).

Pros

  • The only credit card in Canada that offers the highly valuable benefit of roadside assistance!

Cons

  • This card has a very low acceptance rate based on prior user applications.
It's not a great option to have as your primary credit card, either in terms of rewards or benefits. However, it's a good card to complement your other credit cards.

Based on its balance of strong reward rates, decent coverage, plus useful and unique benefits, the Triangle World Elite Mastercard is the best Canadian Tire credit card out of the three featured on this list.

This card grants you high Canadian Tire dollar cashback on almost anything at Canadian Tire, Sport Chek, Mark’s, L’Équipeur, Party City, Pro Hockey Life, Atmosphere, Sports Rousseau, Hockey Experts, L’Entrepôt du Hockey, and participating Sports Experts stores. The card follows this up by offering solid Canadian Tire dollar cashback on groceries (excluding those purchased at Costco and Walmart).

For insurance coverage, cardholders can expect classic purchase protection insurance and car rental damage and theft insurance.

In terms of benefits, the Triangle World Elite Mastercard includes gas discounts on premium fuel and all other fuel types at Gas+ and Petro-Canada locations, not to mention on-call concierge services, and the rare Roadside Assistance Gold Plan for every any time you get a flat tire, are locked out of your vehicle, or need a towing service. It's also notable that the Triangle World Elite Mastercard is the only no-annual-fee credit card in Canada that offers roadside assistance.

Ultimately, the Triangle World Elite Mastercard is ideal for applicants who plan on collecting Canadian Tire dollars on Canadian Tire store purchases and groceries to support future Canadian Tire shopping. It could also be said that this card is perfect for those looking to get valuable roadside assistance for no annual fee.

The Triangle Mastercard is an excellent choice for loyal Canadian Tire shoppers, offering high rewards at their stores and a decent grocery cash-back rate. However, it falls short in other spending categories, offers no insurance, and the rewards can only be redeemed at Canadian Tire locations. If you’re not frequently shopping at these stores, there are better no-fee alternatives available.

Pros

  • High rewards at Canadian Tire: 4% back on pre-tax purchases at Canadian Tire stores.
  • 1.5% on groceries: Offers a decent return on grocery purchases with no annual fee.
  • No annual fee: Makes it easy to keep in your wallet without any cost.
  • No income requirement: No specified income threshold, making it accessible.

Cons

  • Low rewards elsewhere: Only 0.5% back on purchases outside of Canadian Tire and grocery stores.
  • Limited rewards redemption: Rewards are restricted to use within Canadian Tire's family of stores.
  • No insurance coverage: Unlike other credit cards, this one does not include purchase protection or extended warranty.

Rewards

  • 4% back in CanadianTire dollars on almost everything at Canadian Tire, Sport Chek, Mark’s, L’Équipeur, Party City, Pro Hockey Life, Atmosphere, Sports Rousseau, Hockey Experts, L’Entrepôt du Hockey, and participating Sports Experts
  • 1.5% back in CanadianTire dollars on eligible grocery purchases (on the first $12,000 per year; excludes Costco and Walmart)
  • 0.5% back in CanadianTire on all other eligible purchases

There’s one catch to the Triangle World Elite Mastercard that we should mention before introducing this next contender. The catch is that the Triangle World Elite Mastercard comes with some pretty high income requirements – making it inaccessible to many applicants.

With this in mind, the Triangle Mastercard could be a good alternative since it has absolutely no income requirements.

The Triangle Mastercard offers the same high Canadian Tire dollar cashback rates on almost anything at Canadian Tire, Sport Chek, Mark’s, L’Équipeur, Party City, Pro Hockey Life, Atmosphere, Sports Rousseau, Hockey Experts, L’Entrepôt du Hockey, and participating Sports Experts stores. Still, this option provides about half of the cashback rate in Canadian Tire dollars on eligible grocery purchases when compared to the Triangle World Elite Mastercard and about half the cashback rate on the overall base rate for all other purchases.

Unfortunately, the Triangle Mastercard doesn’t have any insurance coverage but it does offer a gas discount on premium fuel and all other fuel types at Gas+ and Petro-Canada locations (like the Triangle World Elite Mastercard).

Therefore, while the Triangle World Elite Mastercard is best overall for rewards, coverage, and benefits – these perks are only accessible to high earners. If you don’t meet the Triangle World Elite Mastercard’s income requirements, you can always choose the Triangle Mastercard instead which gives you the same impressive cashback rates at Canadian Tire stores – making it a nice and uncomplicated supplementary credit card to other budget-friendly credit cards that optimize other purchases.

The Canadian Tire Cash Advantage Mastercard is a solid choice for frequent shoppers at Canadian Tire stores. However, it may not be the best option for those looking for higher cashback or rewards on purchases outside of the Canadian Tire family of stores. The tiered rewards system and lack of insurance are notable downsides. If simplicity and more comprehensive rewards are what you're after, alternatives like the SimplyCash® Card from American Express might be better suited to your needs.

Pros

  • High cash back potential at Canadian Tire: Earn double cash back (up to 3%) on purchases at Canadian Tire and associated stores.
  • No annual fee: You can enjoy cash back rewards without paying a fee to keep the card.
  • No fee financing at Canadian Tire: Interest-free financing for 12 months on purchases over $200 at Canadian Tire stores.

Cons

  • Complicated tier system: Rewards increase with spending, but you start with a low 0.25% cashback rate.
  • Limited rewards at non-Canadian Tire stores: The base earn rate is quite low at 0.25%–1.5%.
  • No insurance included: The card lacks any insurance coverage, which is commonly found on many other cards, even those without annual fees.

Rewards

  • 0.25% cash back up to $1,500 spent per year
  • 0.5% cash back between $1,500 to $3,000 spent per year
  • 1% cash back between $3,000 and $24,000 spent per year
  • 1.5% cash back over $24,000 spent per year
  • 2x cash back (from brackets above, up to 3%) on purchases at CanadianTire stores, Canadian Tire gas bars, and Marks

We were hesitant about mentioning this card on our "best credit cards" list, but ultimately, we thought it would be best to let you know it exists, but certainly shouldn't be your top choice.

The Canadian Tire Cash Advantage Mastercard comes with a tiered earning system that allows you to earn higher cashback rates on eligible purchases each time you meet a certain spending milestone. Cardholders can also receive double the cashback on purchases at Canadian Tire Stores, Canadian Tire gas bars, and Mark's. Still, since the first tier of cashback you'll receive on your first few purchases is so low and the following tiers aren't much better, we actually consider this card to be one of the worst credit cards in Canada for accumulating rewards.

Even if you meet the highest spending tier on this card’s rewards system, you still won’t earn as much cashback on Canadian Tire store purchases as you would with either Triangle credit card.

Since this card doesn’t have any insurance or benefits, the focus is on its earning potential through its tiered rewards program – which, as we mentioned, is extremely disappointing overall.

Ultimately, this card should be a last resort when it comes to earning cashback at Canadian Tire stores since the Triangle cards are much more optimal. Even if you build up your base rate on this card for all other purchases, there are plenty of other budget-friendly cashback cards that offer better rates and sometimes better perks.

Frequently Asked Questions

So, what are the income requirements on the Triangle World Elite Mastercard?

As of now, the income requirements for the Triangle World Elite Mastercard are a minimum personal income of $80,000 or a minimum household income of $150,000.

Are Canadian Tire credit cards good supplementary credit cards?

Since none of these Canadian Tire credit cards come with substantial cashback rates on purchases made outside of Canadian Tire stores or any extensive coverage or benefits (except for the few perks included on the Triangle World Elite Mastercard), these cards are certainly worth pairing with other budget-conscious cashback credit cards.
